Babies newborn to 20 months and their parents/caregivers attend a weekly class for 45-minute during the 14 week semester. The high quality, professionally created At-Home Materials Kit includes important information about the Kindermusik "Foundations of Learning" principles based on current research on how to nurture your baby's total development.

The Australian Kookaburra, the African Ostrich, and many more birds from across the world are featured in songs, dances and poems. Both jazz and classical selctions, a Yiddish fold song, a Muskogean melody, and Mother Goose rhymes set to music are just a few of the colorful and exciting pieces introduced in this curriculum; "Do-Si-Do" stimulates a wonderfully unique experience of rhythm and movement for every participant! Highlights include a Virginia Reel, a combination Tango, Cha-Cha! and a "move-to-it" poem.  Other activities range from chime ball play to instrument exploration and more.  Music selections draw from many traditions, including African American, Mexican, Romantic, Scottish, South African, and Southeast Asian.

The songs are about humor, laughter, silly sounds and words, and movement. The child is going back and forth between being independent and wanting mommy and daddy. Everyday activities like bath time are highlighted in the delightful book 'Pete and PJ' from the Kindermusik library.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! BIRTH TO 4 YEARS

Research-based language and early literacy program!
Created by Kindermusik International, ABC Music & Me is a research-based language and early literacy program built around what children love best-- music. Offered in preschool settings, ABC Music & Me is now available in studio settings to help children develop pre-literacy and language skills through a child's most loved rituals: singing, dancing and making music! This 40 minute class invites you and your whole family to experience the best in musical fun and learning. And it's available for the whole family! Siblings under 2 years attend FREE with one enrolled child!

Theme: "Up in the Sky"
We'll read the story in class called Someone Bigger, about a boy who wants to take over the reigns of the family kite. Then grab a scarf, streamer and parachute and imitate the up and down crouching, reaching, and running associated with flying a kite—just like the boy in our story as we strengthen spatial awareness and self-confidence! Your Family Guide includes activities you can easily incorporate into your day to reinforce our counting and color-learning activities in class. Home Kit includes three-bell jingle, CD, and mini-literature magazine.

Theme: "Let's Play"
All the ways you play at home, in the yard, during your family time together is this month's theme. In class we'll play the Follow the Leader and other fun games to help your toddler develop listening and singing skills while strengthening movement and hand-eye coordination. In your Home Kit, find more activities, songs, and games you can do together to play and learn at home, too. The Family Guide details what a child learned in the classroom, suggests home activities, and includes the read-along story, Golden Bear about a boy who takes his teddy bear with him for a day of activities together. The CD includes all the songs from the class and a narration of Golden Bear and a pair of rhythm sticks

Why multi-age classroom? A mixed-age group class setting invites babies, toddlers and preschoolers to learn together, simulating a family style learning environment. Learning is enhanced as younger children look up to and model their older peers. Older children demonstrate leadership, patience and "advanced" skills, and thereby gain confidence and self-esteem. Each child participates at his own, and nurtured musically to reach his full potential. According to L. G. Katz (1995), "the intention of multiage grouping is to increase the heterogeneity of the group so as to capitalize on the differences in the experiences, knowledge, and abilities of the children." The montessorri philosophy, for example, is based on mixed aged grouping.

Kindermusik for Young Child Semesters 1-4

The Kindermusik Young Child program (based on Orff methodology) consists of 2 sequential semesters with Semester 1 typically starting in the fall of each year and Semester 2 starting the following spring. Children regardless of their music background experience great success and enjoyment from the program because it is rooted in Kindermusik's developmentally sound and research-based philosophy of process-based and NOT performance-based learning.

The Kindermusik Young Child program benefits you and your child by:

• Integrated and balanced approach to music development that includes listening, speaking, reading, writing aspects of music, and movement concepts.

• Age-appropriate and child-centered musical learning experiences that focus on the process and joy of learning.

• Social interaction through group ensemble experiences, turn-taking and team building activities.

• Laying a positive and enriching foundation for future formal musical instruction.

• Discovering the world of music through world composers, music operas, instrument families and music history.

Your At Home Materials provide the music, instruments, stickers, and actvities for a home version of the same playful activites you'll hear about from class, so your child - and you ! - can learn where you're most comfortable: at home.

The Kindermusik At-Home Materials Kit for Young Child Semester 1 includes:

• Children's Folder.
• Games Bag.
• Family Song Book.
• Home CD.
• Carry Bag.
• Glockenspiel with 2 wooden mallets.

Semester 2 further develops your child's instrumental playing skills while developing the greatest instrument of all -- his voice! Concepts such as piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo, and legato/staccato will be introduced.  We will explore string and woodwind instruments, notation, and even a bit of Beethoven.  Children love applying their new knowledge of aural skills, and reading and writing music notation as they further develop their glockenspiel skills.  Lesson highlights from Semester 2 include "Peter and the Wolf," "The Orchestra," and "Sing and Celebrate!" --Available Spring 2010

A Testimonial from a recent graduating family - Spring '09

"I've never seen my child have so much and enthusiasm while working so hard on a specific task - in this case learning to play that glockenspiel! Week after week, she continued to amaze me with her sheer joy in learning about music. I signed her up for the class with merely the goal of providing her a fun activity to do with other children one afternoon a week. But I am so impressed with the outcome! She can read basic music and play a bunch of songs on her glockenspiel (and now a harmonica, piano, etc...etc...). She also knows the names of all the instruments in an orchestra, who Mozart is, and the story of Peter and the Wolf. It is great to see that it just takes a talented instructor like Miss Sunny to reach out to kids and foster interest in music. Miss Sunny's patience and kindness with each and every child brings out the best in them, and they look forward to Kindermusik each week. I am so thankful that my child had the opportunity to be a part of this program."
-Nora Knell, mother of 2 daughters at Musikandmotion

***Children will enjoy the greatest success in Young Child if they are at least 4 1/2 years old when they begin Young Child classes.
